Negotiations Resume: Industry Awaits Key SAG-AFTRA Deal

SAG-AFTRA and the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers have scheduled additional discussions as part of the ongoing strike, as announced by both parties on Wednesday.

In a joint statement, it was revealed that SAG-AFTRA and the AMPTP held an extensive bargaining session, which has now concluded. Negotiations will resume on Friday, October 6, with the parties continuing their internal discussions through the weekend and reconvening on Monday, October 9.

The second round of talks between the studios, streaming platforms, and the guild took place at SAG-AFTRA's Miracle Mile headquarters in Los Angeles. However, specific details regarding the potential agreement framework and any sticking points have not been disclosed.

In Hollywood, there is a mixture of anxiety and frustration as the industry anxiously awaits the outcome of these negotiations. Following the Writers Guild of America's recent agreement in late September, many have cautiously started to rearrange schedules and prepare to restart productions. This not only involves dealing with a backlog of halted projects but also aims to salvage the film awards season by showcasing prominent talent.

SAG-AFTRA is pursuing a favorable new three-year contract from the producers, with key deal points focusing on enhanced safeguards for actors against advancing AI technology and a groundbreaking profit-sharing arrangement tied to streaming revenue, similar to what the WGA achieved.

Leading the negotiations on behalf of SAG-AFTRA are Executive Vice President Duncan Crabtree-Ireland and Union President Fran Drescher, known for her role in "The Nanny." Representing the producers is AMPTP President Carol Lombardini. Like the previous WGA discussions, prominent media CEOs are also participating, including Donna Langley from NBCUniversal, Bob Iger from Disney, Ted Sarandos from Netflix, and David Zaslav from Warner Bros. Discovery.
