Unveiling AI-powered copilot and dynamic updates Windows 11

Microsoft is gearing up for a significant Windows 11 update set to launch on September 26, referred to as 23H2. This update comes with some groundbreaking features and several enhancements aimed at improving the user experience. It coincides with the release of the Surface Laptop Go 3 and the Surface Laptop Studio 2, which were recently announced.

One of the major highlights of this update is the integration of the new AI-powered Windows Copilot feature. While this toolset has previously been available within the Edge browser, it will now become an integral part of Windows itself, offering a wide range of practical applications throughout the operating system, including popular software like PowerPoint and Teams.

With Copilot, you'll have the ability to compose text messages using calendar information, explore navigation options within Outlook, create Spotify playlists, and more. This generative AI tool can even shop for items based solely on a photo, remove backgrounds from images, and access the Bing Image Creator, which will soon benefit from the enhanced capabilities of Dall-E 3. Furthermore, Bing Chat is now a built-in feature accessible from the sidebar.

However, it's not just AI innovations that make this update noteworthy; it also brings some traditional quality-of-life improvements. Native support for RAR and 7-zip file formats is finally included, eliminating the need for third-party archiving applications. The File Explorer has undergone a complete redesign to enhance efficiency, featuring larger file thumbnails and a carousel-style interface. The Paint app has also received a makeover, with the addition of a dark mode and forthcoming transparency layers. Additionally, there's a revamped volume mixer and updated RGB lighting controls known as Dynamic Lighting, which adheres to the open HID LampArray standard and has gained support from prominent gaming PC and accessory manufacturers like Acer, Asus, HP, Razer, and Logitech, among others.

Several existing Windows 11 features have been fine-tuned in this update. The passkey experience is now optimized, and transferring data to a new PC has been streamlined through an official Windows Backup software suite. Voice controls have been expanded, and the photos app now offers new editing options.

Lastly, the newly announced Ink Anywhere feature is designed exclusively for stylus users on touchscreen PCs or hybrid devices. Ink Anywhere allows you to draw on the screen within any text box across the operating system. The OS then converts your handwriting into text and utilizes it in various innovative ways, such as instantly uploading notes or even solving handwritten math problems using AI, as demonstrated by Microsoft.
