Sophie Turner alleges passport seizure by Joe Jonas

Sophie Turner has taken legal action against Joe Jonas, her estranged husband, accusing him of preventing their daughters from returning to her home country of England. The couple filed for divorce on September 5, ending their four-year marriage.

In response to these allegations, singer Joe Jonas has issued a statement through his representative, as reported by People.com. According to the lawsuit, Sophie Turner claims that Joe is in possession of their children's passports. The couple has two children together, a three-year-old named Willa and another daughter who is 14 months old.

The statement from Joe's representative clarified the sequence of events. It revealed that Joe initiated divorce proceedings in Florida, as this was the appropriate jurisdiction for their case. Sophie was informed about Joe's intention to file for divorce, and the Florida Court had already issued an order prohibiting either parent from relocating the children. Sophie received this order on September 6, 2023, over two weeks ago.

The statement mentioned that Joe and Sophie had a civil meeting in New York shortly before Sophie arrived in the city to be with their children. After this meeting, they seemed to have reached an understanding to work together amicably as co-parents.

However, within 24 hours of this agreement, Sophie expressed her desire to permanently take the children to the UK. She then demanded through her legal filing that Joe surrender the children's passports, intending to take them out of the country. Complying with this demand would put Joe in violation of the Florida Court order.

The statement clarified that Joe seeks shared parenting, wanting the children to be raised by both their mother and father, whether in the US or the UK. It emphasized that the children have spent most of their lives in the US. The statement criticized the use of terms like "abduction," characterizing it as misleading and an abuse of the legal system.

The statement added that Joe has cared for the children for the past three months, with both parties' agreement, and they are currently with their mother. It suggested that Sophie's motive is to move the divorce proceedings to the UK and permanently relocate the children from the US.

In conclusion, the statement emphasized that Joe disavowed any statements made on his behalf that were disparaging toward Sophie. His main concern is the well-being of their children. Sophie and Joe filed for divorce on September 5, marking the end of their four-year marriage.
